Our History
Founded in 1963, SSL began as a women's Jr. League of the Flossmoor Service League. Even though the Jr. League had many projects which raised funds, their main focus was to support, serve, and volunteer for the Easter Seals. In 1978 the decision was made to change the name to "Suburban Service League" and to support the local community. This small group of women had a STRONG desire to give back to their community. The Suburban Service League has been serving our southland communities, helping to provide local charities and individuals in need with necessities and financial aid ever since.
Today, we continue to exemplify the same motto: together we can make a difference. Annually, Suburban Service League makes a large impact on the lives of many by contributing to over 50 south suburban charities and individuals. Our major fundraising event is the Crystal Ball – held annually in November. In Spring 2021, we added our first ever 5K. We named it the SSL Difference Maker 5K & Kids Fun Run. It was a huge success. With the help of our members and sponsors we continue to grow, resulting in more lives touched by SSL.
